ECA HE’s Dean (Academic) presents at International Assessment Conference in Manchester

MANCHESTER, UK (19-20 June 2025) – Associate Professor Michelle Cavaleri, the Dean (Academic) of the institutions under Education Centre of Australia, Higher Education (ECA HE), recently attended the International Assessment in Higher Education Conference where she delivered a presentation on ECA HE’s institution-wide assessment review project. This project is currently underway across ECA HE’s three institutes of higher education – Higher Education Leadership Institute (HELI), Asia Pacific International College (APIC), and ECA College of Health Sciences (CHS).

The Conference brought together hundreds of academics and researchers from institutions worldwide, representing diverse disciplines united by a shared commitment to understanding and improving assessment and feedback practices in higher education. The event provided a valuable forum for critical debate on assessment policy and practice, with a strong emphasis on research-driven innovation.

Delegates participated in keynote presentations, masterclasses, and research sessions covering a range of topics, including:

  • Leading strategic change in assessment
  • The social justice role of assessment
  • Learning beyond assessment compliance
  • Scaling digital assessments
  • Consequential feedback
  • The role of exams in modern education
  • Student feedback literacy
  • Balancing innovation and integrity in assessments
  • Enhancing programmatic assessment
  • Designing inclusive assessment
  • Defining and evaluating original work in the GenAI age

A/Prof Cavaleri presented findings from ECA HE’s institution-wide assessment review project through her presentation titled Institutional Assessment Change Through Distributed Leadership: A Dean’s Perspective. The Dean (Academic)’s presentation highlighted ECA HE’s collaborative and methodical approach to enhancing assessment quality and impact across its higher education institutions.

Additionally, an international research group which A/Prof Cavaleri is a member of presented on Institutional Factors that Affect Change of Assessment and Feedback Practice in Higher Education, contributing to the global dialogue on systemic approaches to assessment reform.

The Conference provided valuable insights into best practices and emerging trends that will inform ECA HE’s ongoing assessment enhancement initiatives.
